Grymeworks Radio Starts Tonight on RDU

As of tonight Grymeworks will be taking over the hiphop show on RDU in Christchurch.

The show is every thursday from 9pm till 11pm so if you like good raps i suggest you tune in on 98.5 FM. If your not in chch or if you happen to be technologically inclined you can also listen on the live internet stream at http://www.rdu.org.nz/.

This week well be playing an hour long special on Bootcamp, as well as gang of new stuff from NZ and around the world

Make sure you keep watching this blog because over the next week or so well be uploading a Grymeworks mixtape of brand new music to celebrate starting the show (coz thats apparently how we celebrate around here, by doing a mixtape of the raps as opposed to haveing dinner and drinks...yayuh).

Homebrew has been dropping some of the cooolest stuff ive heard in a while, id highly reccomend checkin out this ep him and haz have put together...shits dope.

Now don’t get me wrong, there ain’t nothing like a good old fashioned fatal stabbing or gruesome murder to help distract from the normal boring reality that is life. And we all need a healthy helping of Home and Away’s drama once in a while when the only thing we have to look forward to is an afternoon shit. But who said music had to be like an episode of Law and Order or a Friday night out with Millie Holmes? Sure, I love hearing a few of Ricky D’s great adventures as much as the next guy in an eye patch and I could listen to Raekwon talk about the different things you can do with baking soda till I gotta bite my ipod to get the battery working. But sometimes, just sometimes, when I’ve played ‘Murder Music’ 3 times over on repeat and I’ve heard Necro rhyme crack pipe 17 different ways, all I wana do is chill out and listen to Q-Tip tell me about the day he lost his wallet. Cause I can relate to that. I ain’t ever been to El Segundo, but I’ve filled out an application for a new eftpos card and that shit is frustrating.

Anyway, what I’m trying to say is. Sometimes life is boring. It just is. So when you’re listening to the new E.P from Home Brew, produced by Haz’ and DJ Truent, who both have never sold crack cocaine or served time in San Quentin for crimes against humanity (although Haz’ did get arrested that one time for pissing in public, but he pled diversion in the end and only got community service) don’t be mad if the beats don’t sound like your favourite wrestlers intro music and the lyrics don’t make you want to head butt a bouncer. Just turn it up. Grab a beer or a wine or whatever the fuck it is you prefer to drink, smoke, snort or shelve to take away from the normal boring reality that is your life and relax.

And understand that ‘Last Week’ won’t give you the same adrenalin rush shop lifting will and it isn’t as exciting as that dude you know who named all his kids after xmen characters. It’s just a normal 7 track EP about the normal boring reality that is life. 7 tracks we wrote last week all about.. well.. last week. And really bro.. That’s it.

End of the Weak NZ

Next Thurday at double happy in chch is the first New Zeland regional comp for the end of the weak competition.EOW is an MC competition with a twist, far more comprehensive than the standard battle format.

1st Round – Written Verse – 60 seconds over music of competitors choice
2nd Round – A Capela Verse – 60 seconds over no music
3rd Round – Freestyle Bag – Competitor uses 5 random objects in freestyle verse
4th Round – Beat Juggling – Competitor must rock with the DJ over 3 random beats
5th Round – Cypha Skills – 2 competitors go back and forth for 4 bars each, 3 times

Make sure you come down and support everyone entering, including grymeworks own Orakle and Jay Roacher.
The city hosting the national finals will be decided on which regional has the most numbers in attendance, so if u want your local mcs to have a home crowd at the final you better come along.

2007 Gameface MC Battle champion Orakle, and former esteemed graffiti writer Prolifik are Poisonous Youth. Both also members of the Menace Records crew, they have been busy building up a solid fan base by performing around Christchurch since 2006. Born into near opposite walks of life within Christchurch city, their music is the voice of today’s youth. Disillusioned by the bright lights and glitter within the garden city they use their raw, in your face, underground style as a vehicle to express their views on: religion, drugs, depression, and the self destructive lifestyle of New Zealand's young people. They are currently writing and recording material for their debut street album, which is due out on Grymeworks in 2008. Stay tuned for their debut Mixtape available very soon.
